They are constructing the new cruise ship terminal area. The port will be opened again by 2018 and the capacity will be increased.

The Cruise ships generally arrive to the Istanbul Cruise Terminal from 8:30 a.m. to 09:00 a.m. It’s a just right time to come to Salı Pazarı area when everybody is already at work. The main boulevard next to the Salı Pazarı dock is a pretty busy one for the rush hours.

Once you leave the cruise ship passenger terminal, you arrive to that busy shoreline boulevard which is named as Meclis-i Mebusan Street.

The Fındıklı tram stop is just near the dock, located on the Meclis-i Mebusan street on the left hand side from the exit of ship dock.

Taking The Tram To Reach Places Of Interest

You can take the Kabataş – Bağcılar (T1) tram to reach the places of interest.

For instance if you take the tram in the direction of Bağcılar, you may travel to Karaköy (Galata Tower), Eminönü (Spice Bazaar), Sultanahmet (Blue Mosque) or Beyazıt (Grand Bazaar).

If you take the tram in the direction of Kabataş then you can walk to Dolmabahçe Palace which is 5 minutes away from the last tram stop. Or you can take the funicular to climb up the Taksim Square. Istiklal Avenue which is the most popular street of Istanbul, stretches from Taksim Square to Galata Tower.

Places To See Around The Istanbul Cruise Port 2018

There are some attractions in the walking distance as well. If you walk in the direction of Galata Tower. You may see the entrance of Modern Art Museum a few minutes later. This is a nice place to pay a visit.

Then you see Nusretiye Mosque 19th century Baroque style mosque of Istanbul. Built by Balyan family. Renowned Armenian architects of Ottoman Istanbul. They also  built the Dolmabahçe Palace, alongside with many other buildings.

When you walk pass the mosque, you see local cafeterias. You can give a try to nargile (Hookah) cafés in Tophane. They do not only provide water-pipe, but also serve coffee, tea, beverages and snacks.

Next thing to see is Kılıç Ali Pasha Mosque & Turkish Bath (1580) This particular bath is one of the best in Istanbul. Tophane tram stop is also placed right next to the mosque.

The Tophane Cannon Foundry, is a historical Ottoman building on the opposite side of Kılıç Ali Paşa Mosque, with all the chimney-like structures on top. Nowadays used as an art & exhibition center.

Karaköy Cafés, Restaurants and Bars

At the northern end of the Galata Bridge, across Golden Horn lies the district called Karaköy. Karaköy is among the city’s oldest and most historic districts, and is today an important transportation point, similar to Eminönü, which is located the opposite end of Galata Bridge.

There is an underground cable-car (Tünel) with two stops to commute between Karaköy and Istiklal Avenue. You can get in this cable-car from Karaköy stop and reach Tunnel Square, which is the starting point of Istiklal Avenue. The other option is to walk up the steep hillside to Galata Tower, throughout the street named Yüksek Kaldırım so that you can see some of the city’s fine old European houses, historical synagogues and famous Galata Tower.

Galata is located inside the borders of Beyoğlu. Beyoğlu area is referred as New City in most guide books because it is located outside Historical Istanbul. Galata is one of the most striking and intense neighborhoods in the New City.

Galata Tower is surrounded by a wonderful square with nice cafes and restaurants.

Galata Bridge

The oldest and most famous bridge of Golden Horn. The Galata Bridge which has connected the Historic Istanbul and new city Beyoğlu for hundreds of years. Galata Bridge is famous for its fishermen standing on each sidewalks of the bridge, trying to catch fish all day long.

There are lots of seafood restaurants under the bridge. From one side of the Galata Bridge there is the view of Galata Tower and Beyoğlu (New City) and on the other side is magnificent view of Historic Istanbul (Constantinople) and its distinctive mosques, palaces, bazaars.
