Istanbul’s metro and tram web is not as complicated as Paris, London, Madrid and many of the other popular European cities. It does not reach to the fringes of the Istanbul city yet. On the other hand, it is very effective for commuting in the city center.

Tourists visiting Istanbul mainly focused on the Sultanahmet Old City, Taksim Square, Bosphorus in the European side; while they prefer Kadıköy and Üsküdar in the Asian Side. Metro, Tram and Marmaray gives you good opportunity to visit these places easily without getting stuck in annoying Istanbul traffic.

Beware of Saturday Istanbul traffic!

If you rent a car in Istanbul, beware of Friday evening, Saturday daytime and Monday morning traffic jams. Try not to drive in the popular areas on Saturday. As an insider, I never drive on Saturday except for emergencies. Traffic jam is unbearable around the downtown area without any reason for every single Saturday.
