Hello, I’m Serhat Engul. I am a licensed tour guide living in Istanbul. I have been providing professional guidance in Istanbul since 2004. My area of expertise is on the Roman and Byzantine history of Istanbul. In the Istanbul Clues travel blog, I write articles about the city’s history, museums, food culture and cosmopolitan neighborhoods.
During my 16 years of professional guidance in Istanbul, I was asked hundreds of questions about this city. After a while I noticed many common aspects of these questions. But since I have a meticulous personality, I have never found it appropriate to give simple answers.
Which Bosphorus Tour should I take in Istanbul? or Where to eat the best Turkish food in the city? or What to see on the Asian Side of Istanbul? I decided to gather the answers to these questions at one address, so that Istanbul Clues travel guide came out.
Istanbul Clues Travel Guide
I have been publishing articles in Istanbul Clues travel guide since 2016. I try to provide up-to-date and accurate information that will be useful for those who visit Istanbul. The reason I chose the Istanbul Clues name for the blog was to emphasize that I am offering tips about Istanbul.
However, after choosing the name of the website, I noticed that there is another site that uses a similar name. There is a website called “Istanbul Clue” that sells Bosphorus Tours. I would like to state that the information and services that I offer have nothing to do with this site.

Private Tour Guide Serhat Engul
I offer several guided tour options for those who want to visit Istanbul with a private tour guide. The two most popular tours are half-day and full-day tour options that include Sultanahmet, the heart of Istanbul’s Old City. You can find the details of these tours in the half day tour and full day tour titles on Istanbul Clues travel blog.
The links I give in the top lines go to the detailed articles about the tours I offer. However, if you want to see all the tours in a summary, click Istanbul Guided Tours by Serhat Engul.
Discovering the Old City of Istanbul
I recommend you to visit the Historical Peninsula of Istanbul, which was known as Constantinople in the past, with a private guide. Since the history of Istanbul includes multiple layers such as Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, a historian guide will contribute greatly to your travel.
My TripAdvisor Page
My guests, who have been on a walking tour with me, wrote long reviews on my page on Trip Advisor. What I care about most during my tours is to make Istanbul’s exciting history come alive in the eyes of my customers. You can see from the comments how the stories and legends I have told inspire travelers.
